In Reading, we continue to work on our unit about Eric Carle. We have read so many books on Eric Carle. We are enjoying learning all about him and the different things he uses in his book such as speech bubbles, repetitive language, and connections. We have been comparing all the books that we read using an attribute chart. We have learned all about story elements and we have been picking them out of books. ( characters, setting, problem and solution) Our reading groups are coming along nicely. A lot of us are decoding and reading books, some of us are still encoding but soon will be reading books. Please continue to practice decoding words at home. Please also continue to practice our sight words at home.
In Phonics, we are working on short vowels and listening to hear what short vowel is being used in each word. We have also learned the sounds A-T. Many of us already know all the sounds of the letters of the alphabet. ( Good Job practicing at home!!)
In Math, we learned how to use a calculator. We have gone over different types of shapes such as circle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, hexagon, rhombus and triangle. We have gone over how many sides they have and that they have corners. We have used pattern block templates to practice making the patterns.
In social studies, we continued to learn about Martin Luther King and we worked on our Scholastic News talking about rules and how they should be fair for everyone.
In science, we learned about penguins and we talked about weather. Next week we will be learning about polar bears and then starting hibernation.

We are also in need of snack! Thank you!
